The Ground We Stand On

The name Brave Ground came from my own life and lived experience. There have been times when I have quite literally found myself on the ground, unsure of what to do, where to go, or what would come next. In those moments, I didn't always have an answer, and I slowly learned that maybe I didn't need one. Sometimes all I could do was stand back up, find my footing, and take a step forward without knowing exactly where it would lead.

Those moments were scary, uncertain, painful, and at the same time, incredibly beautiful. There were times when the ground beneath me didn't feel particularly solid, and I wasn't sure if it would hold, but I stood there nonetheless. Somewhere along the way, I began to understand that being brave doesn't always mean being fearless or having everything figured out. Sometimes it's simply allowing ourselves to be where we are, to feel what is there, and when we're ready, finding the courage to take another step.

That's where the name Brave Ground comes from.

Over time, those experiences shaped more than just the name Brave Ground. They shaped the kind of space I wanted to create - something genuine and welcoming, where we can reflect, connect, learn, and grow; a place to feel safe, be challenged, and discover what we're capable of. Brave Ground grew from something deeply personal into something I could share with others.

I don't know exactly where Brave Ground will go, and in many ways, that's part of the point. We don't need the entire path laid out before us to begin. We can prepare, grow, and take the steps in front of us while leaving a little room for what we can't yet see.

I think that's one of the lovely things about life. We don't always know what's waiting for us ahead.

Stand where you are. Listen inward. Let go. Lets go.

  • Bravery is not the absence of fear - it is the willingness to take a step forward even when we don’t feel fully safe, knowing that we are supported along the way.

  • Lived experience creates connection and trust - our personal journeys allow us to meet you where you are and help you navigate your own path without judgment.

  • True support creates safety, which makes it possible to move forward even when things feel uncertain.

  • You do not need to have all the answers right now - we trust that you already have the strength within you, and we’re here to help create the space for those answers to emerge in their own time.

What guides us

At Brave Ground, we often look to the rhythms of the natural world for guidance. In nature, growth is rarely rushed. Seeds rest beneath the soil until the conditions are right. Rivers carve their way forward slowly, shaping the land over time. Forests grow through seasons of sun, storm, and stillness.

Rivers carve their way forward slowly, shaping the land over time. Forests grow through seasons of sun, storm, and stillness.

We believe people grow in much the same way.

The path of healing and change can feel uncertain at times, like stepping onto a trail that bends out of sight. Courage is not about forcing ourselves forward or pushing through pain alone. It is about finding enough steadiness, safety, and companionship to keep walking—even when the next step feels tender or unknown.

Much of what guides us comes from lived experience. Having moved through our own seasons of struggle, loss, growth, success and recovery, we understand that real change is rarely linear. It unfolds slowly, often quietly, in moments of honesty, connection, and trust.

From that place, we offer presence, perspective, and a shared sense that growth often happens quietly, one step at a time.

While growth and personal development are often spoken about in serious terms, we believe there is real value in making space for lightness, curiosity, and a bit of joy along the way. Meaningful progress does not come only from effort and reflection—it also grows through moments of connection, shared laughter, and genuine human presence.

Meaningful progress does not come only from effort and reflection—it also grows through moments of connection, shared laughter, and genuine human presence. In one-on-one work, these lighter moments can create trust, build momentum, and gently remind people of their own strengths and possibilities. At Brave Ground, we see joy and playfulness not as distractions from growth, but as part of the ground where it takes root. When someone feels comfortable enough to relax, laugh, and simply be themselves, confidence begins to open, new perspectives emerge, and the path forward begins to feel less like something that must be forced, and more like something waiting to be discovered.

The Roots we Share

Aspen trees have always fascinated me because what looks like a forest of individual trees can actually be something much more connected. Aspens can reproduce through their roots, sending up new stems that remain part of the same living organism. One of the most remarkable examples is Pando, an aspen grove in Utah made up of roughly 47,000 stems spread across more than 100 acres, all connected by a single root system. Above the ground they stand as individual trees, but beneath the surface, they are part of something much larger.

That connection is part of what drew me to the aspen in the first place. Beneath all that makes us different, we share many of the same stories, struggles, hopes, and need to belong. We are connected in ways we may never fully see, while still growing into something wonderfully and uniquely our own.

Always Learning, Always Growing.

Remaining Teachable

At Brave Ground, we don’t believe one person has all the answers. We believe meaningful growth happens when we remain curious, listen to one another, and stay open to learning along the way.

Remaining teachable means staying open to the idea that there is always something more to learn, about ourselves, from others, and through the experiences life puts in front of us. It means being willing to ask questions, try something unfamiliar, reconsider old ways of thinking, and recognize that we don't need to have all the answers. Whether we're learning a new skill, receiving feedback, navigating a challenge, or simply seeing something from a different perspective, staying curious allows us to keep growing. Remaining teachable isn't about knowing less; it's about remaining open to what comes next.
